The 2012 Chevy Cruze is a slightly refreshed version of the previous model. In fact, buyers should hardly see a significant difference between the 2011 Cruze and the 2012 version. The decision to continue selling this car as it is was, brought about by the lack of clear reason for its upgrade.

This simply means that Chevrolet has just changed the model year of the Cruze and nothing else. The most basic features are still the same and even the optional accessories provided are those that were offered in the previous years model.

In terms of the exterior design, the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze looks small compared to other sedans. Its design makes it appear as a sporty vehicle with well-trimmed contours. Its curves and overall layout has been the trademark of the Cruze for almost three years now. Despite its lack of an exterior makeover, any buyer would not hesitate buying the Cruze in the event that they need to purchase a smaller vehicle with a savvy look.

In terms of the interior design, the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze still boasts of its twin-cockpit layout. Its inner theme, dominated by a two-tone color scheme, makes this car look more upscale compared to some of its closest rivals in the same class. Its control panel is pretty simple. However, the optional navigation system might be considered by some buyers to be a bit awkward, particularly to those who are not proficient in handling complex inputs of information.

Another problem that most car experts would point out when examining the interior of the Cruze is its limited front seat space. This makes driving a Cruze less enjoyable compared to some of its closest competitors.

In addition to this, the legroom in the rear is also plagued by the same issue as the lack of space provided upfront. As a matter of fact, most car experts rated this aspect as average, since other small car models such as the Civic and the Jetta offer plenty of legroom for rear passengers.

    Performance   Handling

The performance of the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze can be considered as mediocre. This is because the engine that is used to propel this model is a low performer. In fact, the 1.8L in-line 4-cylinder that comes on its base model could only produce a maximum power output of 136 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque. That is viewed as not so impressive, since some of its rivals in the same class could offer higher outputs of power with their base model engines.

Even the turbocharged 1.4L in-line 4-cylinder engine found on the Eco, LT, and LTZ trims are considered low performers as well. With its maximum power output of about 138 horsepower, it has only 2 more horsepower than the engine found on the LS trim.

Despite these criticisms, the Cruze offers a comfortable and controlled driving experience when driven. The driver could easily feel the Cruze’s secured handling which makes this makes the model ideal for slow drives around town.

    Fuel Economy

In terms of gas mileage, the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze is a good performer. The 1LT, 2LT and the LTZ trims have similar EPA mileage estimate of 26 miles per gallon in the city and 38 miles per gallon on the highway. The EPA mileage estimate of the LS is 26 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway. This is considered very respectable as compared to some of the other trims available. But, the Eco’s EPA mileage estimate is considered the best among the 5 trims, with an EPA rating of 28 miles per gallon in the city and 42 miles per gallon on the highway.
