Smart has finally revealed the starting price of the 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive which is set to compete with other electric car models in the market such as the Nissan Leaf and the Mitsubishi i.
Based on the information revealed by Smart, the 2013 Fortwo Electric Drive coupe will have a starting price of $25,750 including the destination charge of $750. Given this starting price, the 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive coupe would most likely be considered as the cheapest electric car model in the market right now since most of its competitors are priced higher.
The 2012 Nissan Leaf which is regarded as the Fortwo Electric Drive coupe’s arch rival is sold at a starting price of $36,050 including the $850 shipping charge. The current cost of buying a single unit of the Nissan Leaf simply reflects the price difference of about $10,300 and this could be a big deal for buyers who are after for a cheaper yet reliable electric vehicle.
Just like the Nissan Leaf, the 2012 Mitsubishi i is also slotted to compete with the 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive coupe. However, the cost of buying a unit of 2012 Mitsubishi i is also expensive compared to the amount that a buyer would be spending just to purchase a Fortwo Electric Drive coupe. With its current starting price $29, 975 including the destination charge of $850, the latest version of the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive coupe is still cheaper by about $4225.
Given the existing differences in price, it is quite obvious that the 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive coupe will most likely be considered as the top option among electric car buyers who are after for greener cars without the need to spend more just to have this.
But aside from its cheaper price, the 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive coupe is also viewed as a remarkable as well as an iconic vehicle model since this will most likely become the smallest car that will be seen on US roads. In addition to this, the 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive cabriolet which is scheduled to be released together with the coupe version and will be sold with the starting price of $28,750 is also expected become the first convertible car model that will be powered by an electric drivetrain in the US.
The two versions of the 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive will hit the car maker’s dealerships this spring.
