The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced the winners of the Top Safety Pick award for this year last October 3, 2012.
Based on the announcement provided by the IIHS, the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek, 2013 Dodge Dart, 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, and the 2013 Lexus ES 350 were recognized as this year’s winner of the Top Safety Pick award. These vehicles were recognized as the winners since each of them provided an excellent performance on the rollover and rear impact crash test, side crash test, frontal, and moderate overlap frontal crash tests that were conducted by the IIHS.
The 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek and the 2013 Dodge Dart are considered as newcomers in the US automobile market but they were still able to prove to the evaluators from IIHS that they are among the safest car models that are sold in the market right now.
The 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe and the 2013 Lexus ES 350 on the other hand were introduced as the redesigned versions of their predecessors but the evaluators who took charge of evaluating these cars were quite stunned by the way their overall safety features have improved particularly in the case of the Lexus ES 350.
But aside from grabbing the Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS this year, the winners are also expected to become the most sought-about models in their segments since all of them have other significant features to offer and most of these were the ones that buyers are looking for in a vehicle.
The 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek is noted for its spacious interior, the availability of the fuel-efficient package, and outstanding off-road prowess. The 2013 Lexus ES 350 is admired for its upscale interior, powerful and smoother V-6, and the abundance of luxurious features.
The newcomer which is the 2013 Dodge Dart is praised for its relatively quicker and fuel efficient turbocharged engine, braking distances that are shorter compared to some of its rivals, and the abundance of advanced safety features. The 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe could also be considered as a top option by a lot of SUV buyers since this is blessed with a long list of standard features, improved fuel consumption, and larger cabin and cargo space.
Given this recognition, the winners of the Top Safety Pick award could now be regarded as good options for the consumers who are after for vehicles that are safer. However, these models were not yet subjected to the 5-star safety rating program that the US federal government requires. So in order to convince more buyers to buy these vehicles, each of them should obtain the highest overall safety rating that the NHTSA would be giving.
